Educational Programme Evaluation

The body's primary function is to keep the brain alive; the brain is the seat of human intellect, consciousness and personality. John Ratey's A User's Guide To The Brain, for example, is one of the more useful books on the subject of how the human brain works. It is with such books that we can begin our discussion on what education is about.

Education is the art of persuading the brain to adopt new cognitive behaviours. That is all there is to it. However, the question of what cognitive behaviours are useful to individuals and societies is what should engage us when we attempt meaningful discussion on the nature of education.

Before we continue, then, we should pause to reflect on that question. The answers arrived at during our reflection and the subsequent discussion on our thoughts should constitute the first step in evaluating educational programmes.
